DIY Hairmask with Unrefined Shea Butter and Unrefined Mango Butter
This is a simple, no-nonsense recipe for a deep conditioning DIY Hair Mask. Again... for all those bucks I wish I hadn't spent on commercial synthetic products :|
Before getting into the recipe, let me quickly list out the benefits of Unrefined Shea Butter and Unrefined Mango Butter for hair.
- Deep Conditioning
- Soothing of the Scalp
- Mending of Split Ends
- Protection from Heat Damage
- Softening of the Hair Strands
- May Help Boost Hair Growth
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Cup Better Butter Company's Unrefined Shea Butter
1 Cup Better Butter Company's Unrefined Mango Butter
1/4 cup Sweet Almond Oil
1/4 Cup Virgin Coconut Oil
Few drops of any one of the following Essential Oils:
Organic Lavender Essential Oil - To relieve stress and boost hair growth
Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil - For effective dandruff treatment
Organic Rosemary Essential Oil - For cell regeneration and hair growth
Organic Ylang Ylang Essential Oil - For dry scalp
Peppermint Essential Oil - For a cooling effect and as hair follicle booster
Method:
Double boil all the oils except the Essential Oil till melted.
Put the mixture in the freezer till the top layer solidifies. Then take it out and whip it till the mixture looks like buttercream frosting.
Add the essential oil. Give it a quick mix till well blended and tada! Your homemade hair mask is ready.
Kindly Note:
1) Since the hair mask consists only of natural oils, it might take more than a few washes to remove the greasiness from your hair. If you want to wash off the oils in one go, you can sprinkle some baking soda on your hair and scalp before the shampoo wash. This helps remove the excess oil and also makes your hair and scalp squeaky clean.
2) Castor oil can be used instead of Coconut Oil if one wants the hair mask to be a hair growth booster mask.
3) Essential Oils like lemongrass, tea tree, and rosemary can be used for those with persistent dandruff issues.
4) The mask can be applied 30-40 mins before hair wash and once a week.
5) For deeper penetration, a warm towel can be wrapped around your hair after the application of the hair mask.
6) Since only oils and butters are mixed, the mask will stay good for up to a year, provided it is stored in a cool and dry place.
7) As always, we recommend a patch test before application. Or, if you develop itchiness or redness post-use, kindly discontinue using the mask. Although the mask is 100% natural, some could be allergic to natural butters and oils.
8) The products I have mentioned above are not paid promos. I have personally used them and love them. If you buy through the link mentioned above, I get a small referral fee from Amazon.
