Whipped Shea Body Butter
I am someone who has spent so much money on store-bought moisturisers. You name any fancy brand; I will have 2-3 variants of that brand's body butter sitting in my cupboard. The smell and colours of the stores have always tempted me just to walk in and buy one, even if there were some 4 boxes of body butter already sitting at home. THE SMELL and THE COLOURS- Of course! When it is so synthetic, it is only natural to be so strong to stay on you hours after application. For a looooong time, I believed strawberry body butter had actual processed strawberries in it. Lol!
Anyways, I am thankful for the day I discovered body butters could be made at home, and they are all-natural, deeply moisturising, and so easy on the pocket. Also, it is just SO MUCH FUN to whip it up in our own kitchen.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Better Butter Company's Unrefined Shea Butter
1/4th cup Virgin Coconut Oil - I use Max Care Virgin Coconut Oil
1/4th cup Sweet Almond Oil - I use Hamdard Roghan Badam Shirin Sweet Almond Oil
25-30 drops of Essential Oil - (You can choose any of the following or try combinations of any of the following; for example, orange and cinnamon go so well together)
Organic Lavender Essential Oil
Method:
1) Double boil all the oils and butter in a saucepan.
2) Once it melts, give it a mix until it all combines well. Transfer it to a mixing bowl, cover it with a cling film and store it in the freezer till the top layer of the butter mixture thickens and starts to solidify again. (It might take anywhere between 25-40 minutes)
3) Once the entire mixture turns semi-solid, take the bowl out and start whipping it at medium speed with a hand mixer. Beat the mixture till its churns into whipped butter. It will look precisely like buttercream frosting.
4) Add the essential oil or a combination of essential oils, give it a little mix with the beater till well combined.
Ta-da! Your homemade whipped shea body butter is ready.
You can transfer it to a mason jar and use it. Or even better, make and gift them to your loved ones. :)
Kindly Note:
1) The products I have mentioned above are not paid promos. I have personally used them and love them. If you buy through the link mentioned above, I get a small referral fee from Amazon.
2) The whipped body butter can be oily and greasy for some. Since it is 100% natural and contains zero preservatives, this is very normal. You can also add 1-2 teaspoons of arrow-root powder for less greasiness. However, I usually love my whipped body butter in all its greasiness :D
3) While choosing essential oils, please avoid lemon or lime oils as they are phytotoxic and cause chemical burns when exposed to sunlight.
4) Since the whipped butter has zero preservatives, it might last for 5-6 months, provided it is stored in a cool and dry place. To increase the longevity of the butter, it can also be refrigerated.
5) If you live in a hot place, the whipped butter might melt, and it is only normal. It is sensitive to temperature. However, the efficiency of the butter will still remain intact.
